I must have slept and pretty soundly at that because I woke with a start and slipped out of my hammock, my toasty tootsies hitting the cold, bare floor. That jolted me into realizing that I was not going to be late for work, instead, I had an entire day of nothing but time stretching out in front of me. Another Sunday in Capsburg that I was not looking forward to. To say this little ‘burg was dead on Sundays was an understatement. It wasn’t just dead, it was completely comatose, DOA. and absolutely incredibly boring. Snoozeville.

Take a longer than usual shower, maybe four minutes this time and leave the conditioner on a little longer. Try to find something to eat. Walk up to the sleazy gas station and deal with the even more sleazy guy behind the counter so I could get a slim newspaper to pour through at a glacial pace. Then read whatever paperback I hadn’t finished yet. Eat something. Take a walk and try to find a new part of town to explore. Maybe I’d take Jack this time. Might work out okay and he might enjoy sniffing some new places. Then rinse out some clothes and hang them out back. Take a nap. Play solitaire. See if I could start my van. What else? What else could I do to fill the day when nothing, not one store or business was open, other than the gas station that closed at what, noon? Some would say restful. I’d say b-b-b-boring as hell.

Thankfully, Monday came and I was early for work this time. And good thing I was because everybody was hopping around anticipating a big crowd for lunch. Time flew by so fast that by the time I was scooping up some lunch for myself it was well after two thirty. After I let Jack out, kicked off my shoes and ate a few bites, I laid down for just a few minutes, which turned into an hour and a half. That left barely time to get to the bank, grocery store and library. Nope, no library visit today because they’re not open until Tuesday. I was proud of myself for remembering this time. I hustled around and got back just as the sun was setting. After finishing off my lunch and adding a slice of peanut butter bread, I found myself thinking about Casey and wishing I’d pressed more about his baseball game tonight. Was I getting so accustomed to seeing him each evening that I missed him? Red flags were flying. Caution! Caution! Caution!

Why was I so afraid, and of what? A nice young man who was smart and considerate? I had some seriously deep thinking to do which was not exactly sleep inducing.

After a rough night with little restful sleep, Tuesday morning came shining through my t-shirt curtain, bright and cheery, calling me to rise and shine and join the world. After strolling in the back door and clocking in, I took a breath and prepared myself for another hectic day.
